Exciting news, guys! Shantel is joining the second season of The Flash as Patty Spivot!

“The Flash” announced two big castings for its upcoming second season at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Saturday (July 11).

The first is Teddy Sears (“Masters of Sex”) as Jay Garrick. Garrick was the first DC Comics character to be the Flash, but in the TV series, he’s a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and the S.T.A.R. team of impending danger that he alone cannot stop.

The second is Shantel VanSanten (“The Messengers”) as Patty Spivot, a police officer and science enthusiast who catches Barry’s eye. She’ll partner with Det. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and have no idea that her new crush is the Flash.

“Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas,” says executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a release. “It is so exciting, as we rush into Season 2, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

He adds, “We were huge fans of ‘The Messengers’ and are excited to have Shantel join us to help complicate Barry Allen’s love life in Season 2.”

“The Flash” returns Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
